I’m not usually someone who decorates for Easter (or St. Patrick’s Day or Valentine’s Day… sorrynotsorry), but I do love the colors that come along with Easter and springtime. I also greatly enjoy choosing paint colors and reading all of the color names, so I couldn’t resist this simple craft idea using just paint chips and some yarn!

Supplies

  • Paint chips in fun Easter colors
  • Thin cardboard for a template
  • Sharp pencil
  • Yarn or string
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Draw and cut out templates on the cardboard for the shapes you want to use in your garland. If you’re not comfortable drawing these freehand, you can find simple templates for eggs and peeps online.
  2. Trace the shapes onto the paint chips and cut out
  3. Punch two small holes at the top of each shape (I used a sharp pencil with the yarn ball behind to protect from stabbing myself)
  4. Thread the yarn through the holes to create your garland!

I think the paint chips work particularly well for the eggs with the line across the middle! These would also be fun to use in Easter cards or as tags on Easter gifts. My kids (ages 6 and 9) were not that interested in following the directions, but had a lot of fun picking out their own paint chips at the hardware store, reading the names, and then coming up with their own shapes and characters. It was a novelty to work with something other than construction paper for once!
