What’s left on your Summer bucket list?

Gigi’s Summer Bucket List is a hit with her kids!

This Summer, I became THAT mom. I don’t know how it happened. I’m sick, pregnant, my husband was gone for 5 months with the military, and it is HOT outside. Somehow, though, I decided to follow my Pinterest-loving alter ego’s promptings and make a Summer bucket list. One of my favorite things to do is create silly little graphics, so I made a quick list on the back of an envelope in the car and I got to creating. After a few days of random thoughts, we had a perfect bucket list! As soon as my husband got home at the end of June, we grabbed the kids and made the announcement! Although they had no idea at first what the heck a “bucket list” was, they quickly fell in love with the idea and haven’t been able to stop talking about it since! Below, I’ll list out what we had on our list and hopefully, you’ll comment what was on your or what you would have done differently so I can steal your ideas next year!

Here’s Our List!

  1. Lemonade stand– last year, we built the stand and then… left it sitting in the garage. We have the paint and everything, but… yeah, life. This may be left undone.
  2. Sparkler party– this one was quick and easy and the kids loved it and we got some great pictures
  3. Make flower crowns– I aspire to be an incredible crafter, but I’m just not. We’ll see if this one happens.
  4. Splash pad– There’s an awesome splash pad in Ammon and we went a few times!  Check out our post here to get some tips and tricks for making the most of your visit to the Ammon Splash Pad.
  5. Smores– This was simple with a bit of planning and we have a little fire pit in the backyard. As it turns out, none of us are crazy about smores and it was just kind of a bust.
  6. Go camping– HA! Remember the part where I said I was pregnant, sick, and hot? Yeah, camping is a bit of a stretch. Pinterest-me is much more ambitious than I am!
  7. Run through the sprinklers– now this one, I can handle. We paired this with the water balloon fight and the kids loved it and I stayed dry and it was a win all around!
  8. Go fishing– I’m honestly kind of hoping my husband will just take them as a dad day since touching fish freaks me out, but we’ll see how that plays out.
  9. Water balloon fightBunch-o-Balloons saved me on this one! We filled 300 balloons in like 5 minutes and let them sit in the sun inside a tote for a morning until we threw the kids outside and told them to fight to the death!
  10. Make pizza– again, easy with some prep. I went the easy route and we bought a premade crust, sauce, and shredded mozzarella. They won’t eat pepperoni, but I sure will. YUM!
  11. Have a picnic– I may have cheated on this one and got KFC, but eating food on a blanket at the park counts, right?
  12. Go to the library– I CANNOT believe we’ve never been to the library! I LOVE to read, and we have kids’ books everywhere, so this NEEDS to happen ASAP! With storytime and the fishpond, a trip to the Idaho Falls Public Library is necessary for our summer list!
  13. Feed ducks– I don’t know when the ducks became so hard to please, but it took us 20 minutes and 2 containers of oats and grapes to get a small group (Gaggle? Flock?) to stick around! We went to the river and I felt like a failure, but the kids got excited every time a new one would join the party, so it was worth it!
  14. Fly kites– I’m a little worried to do this one because it seems disastrous with 4 littles, but it’ll get done
  15. Drive-in movie– This one may get turned into a movie at the park, but the days they have been showing at McCowin or Freeman park are always the day my kids refuse to eat dinner. GAHH! Don’t they know I need to get it checked off my list?
  16. Photo booth– One day, I will fix my hair, put makeup on, and we will go cram all 6 (+baby bump) into the photo booth at the mall. Soon… Yes, this needs to happen.
  17. Zoo– easy peasy
  18. Aquarium– even easier
  19. Buy crystals– I’m kind of a hippie and, in this house, rocks are friends. We went to Healing Hands downtown and the kids each got to pick out a special crystal they liked and they carry them around in pockets. It’s the sweetest thing!
  20. Rock hunt– If you aren’t a part of Idaho Falls Rocks on Facebook, go join! I’m sure there will be a post or two regarding rock hunting, but it’s one of our favorite pastimes!

So, there you have it! We are 50% done with about a month of Summer left so it is CRUNCH time! Wish me luck!
