My name is Kayla Maddox and I am an Idaho native that loves this area. I grew up in Rigby and couldn’t wait to leave. My hobbies growing up included soccer, drama, and hiking. After enduring the boring small town, I graduated from Rigby High School and vowed I would get out of this area as soon as I could.
Instead of moving away for school though, I stayed home and went to a beauty college in Rexburg. I loved cosmetology and worked hard in a salon in Rigby after I graduated. While living in Rigby, I met my husband. We didn’t hit it off at first since he was a little stuck up acting, but after a few dates, I knew that he was the one. We dated for six months before he proposed and two months later we were married.
My husband was going to school in Cut Bank, Montana so that is where our married adventure began. Cut Bank is a cute little town, but when your claim to fame is being the coldest town in the nation, you don’t keep a lot of people. Not only that, we had one expensive grocery store in an hour and a half radius and that was about it for shopping.
Since that wasn’t appealing at all we quickly moved to Helena, Montana; I loved the area but couldn’t help but miss East Idaho. After presenting the facts of why Idaho was better than Montana, I convinced my Montana-native husband to join me back home. We bought a house in Idaho Falls and quickly filled it with our two kids, a dog, and a hamster.
I have continued in the cosmetology field and enjoy educating women about their hair, skin, and nails. I spend a lot of time researching products and trends to discover the best way to care for your outer beauty. When I got pregnant with my daughter, my hair and skin changed dramatically. I realized a lot of my favorite products were not pregnancy safe and had to switch it up. I broke out all of my resources and started to learn about pregnancy health. I loved it so much it opened the door to a whole new career path.
I have enjoyed fitness for years but I quickly realized how different fitness is for pregnant/postpartum women. I was so confused as to what a pregnant woman should and shouldn’t do. I didn’t know how to stay fit in this new body. Postpartum became an even more confusing time. There were so many questions and a variety of answers!
Researching is my jam and it led me to my new career. Becoming a pre/postnatal personal trainer has given me so much insight into pregnancy and postpartum. I now get the opportunity to help guide women through each stage of this new life. I love helping them stay healthy and prepare themselves for birth. I love supporting moms and giving them the confidence they need to be strong after baby!
When I am not hustling at my career, I am usually found reading a variety of genres and spending time with my family. You can find my kids and I at the library once a week for reading time. One of my favorite books is Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. It really helped me get off my bum and work for my goals. It also had some really great marital advice that I totally recommend to all women!
While my family mostly likes to be bums, we occasionally venture out. We enjoy getting out in nature for a nice hike. Our favorite hiking spot is up by Warm River since it’s fairly easy for the whole family. When we are done, we like to stop in Ashton for some milkshakes!
When I am not pregnant, I coach soccer or gymnastics, which is a blast! I love empowering young, female athletes to reach their potential. I have coached soccer for 8 years and never get sick of it! When we were living in Montana, I was introduced to gymnastics coaching. I coached gymnastics for two years and like the versatility of the sport. I may not be able to do a back handspring myself, but I enjoy helping young kids learn to.
I have always gotten along better with kids; talking to other adults is a struggle! I may work in a very social setting but truth be told, I am not a social butterfly. I thrive talking and learning about other people but have extreme social anxiety. Since having kids, I have realized you can’t hide in your bed when things get awkward. Your kids need to get out and meet people. Using my kids to socialize is my go-to; we attend any event for kids that fits in our schedule. It may seem like I don’t want to chat, but I promise you can totally talk my ear off. I may not respond in the socially appropriate way but I will try.
I am a normal mom with laundry piles and dirty dishes. I only sometimes make my bed and shaving my legs is a lofty goal. I hide in my room to enjoy a snack and ignore the children banging on the door. On good days, I actually do my hair in something other than the mom-bun. I try to avoid using plastic but I don’t always remember to put my reusable grocery bags back. I feed my kids as healthy as possible but sometimes they just get PB&J. I feel like my life is together when I actually put real pants on. I live in leggings. My favorite food is cereal. I love orange juice and could drink it all day. I am a morning owl and can’t stay up past nine at night. I love crime shows and have never watched a single episode of Friends. I listen to business podcasts or uplifting songs while I drive. If you are a mom that can relate to any of the above, let’s get together for a mom date!
