All I ever wanted was a creative outlet to be able to speak my mind, share my opinion, and help others. By being a writer for the Idaho Falls Moms Blog, I have been blessed to be able to do just that.
I am a mother of two amazing boys who are smart, considerate, and hilarious. One is just about to turn thirteen and I think he is just the greatest teenager I’ve ever met. He asks me for advice on fashion, girls, and friend drama because he knows that I taught middle school for several years and know a thing or two about kids his age. He loves to curl up in my bed and watch old episodes of The Office and Friends. He is a kid of my own heart. My youngest is sensitive, caring, and cannot live a day without hugging and holding me. He is the kid who hears my garage door open and runs out to meet me so he can be the first to hug me. When I became pregnant with my second child, I wasn’t sure I could love them both equally, but I do. I love them in their own unique ways, but they are the greatest loves of my life.
I met my husband when I was 17 and we will be celebrating 15 years of marriage this upcoming summer. I was young, immature, and inexperienced when I met my husband, but somehow, we have to become an old married couple. We have had many ups and downs but I could never imagine my life without him and his goofy jokes and undoubting commitment.
My greatest desire in life is to travel. I want to experience every nook and cranny of this beautiful world. When I travel to a new place, I bring a laminated itinerary so I can experience every minute of it. I want to be able to see as much as I can in case I never return. Traveling with me is exhausting, all consuming, but a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Another passion in my life is helping others. I have been on about 16 humanitarian trips in my life and they continue to fill my bucket. My sister helped instill my love of humanitarian work when I was 16 and I have been trying to go on a trip once a year. As a teacher, I have led several trips with students to help share my passion and love with them. Last year, I went to the Dominican Republic and helped build a playground for a deaf school. During Thanksgiving, I went to Puerto Rico and helped rebuild the rainforest. This upcoming March, I will be heading to Peru to help provide basic necessities and health care for street orphans. These experiences are always difficult, and usually heart wrenching, but they are always so incredibly rewarding and unlike anything else in this world.
As a writer for this blog, I hope to share my experiences growing up in an abusive household and how to be a mother of boys. I am always navigating friends and what it means to be a working mom. I love my life because of my family and the experiences I have been privileged enough to have before the age of 40. Continue to follow me on this great journey of life.
