As a kid, one of my favorite things about going back to school was getting all my brand new school supplies. I loved how they were so shiny and new and I would get so excited to use them. As the last days of summer waned, the nerd inside of me would get out all my school supplies from my brand new backpack every day and look at them with awe. It was actually sort of painful to start to use them because they would lose all their shininess.
Now that I have kids I get excited to take them to pick out their school supplies and see what they think is super cool. Today’s supplies are much cooler than when I was in school. Back during the dawn of time or what I like to refer to as the ’80s, a pencil case was just a pencil case and I was excited to just be able to pick out my own color. My son, on the other hand, gravitates toward the monster pencil case that has a mouth that’s a zipper, eyes, and a bowtie.
As someone who lived, ate, and breathed my Trapper Keeper in school, I about died when I saw a binder recently with gold and black sequins. As a kid, I would have been the coolest kid in school if my mom had bought that for me. Unfortunately, my son was not as impressed as I was. However, he did enjoy the eraser set that he found that included all his Minion characters and the folders that had superheroes on them.
Backpacks are another way for a child to show their individuality. They can get backpacks with unicorns, superheroes, their favorite cartoon characters, or just plain colored ones. The fun ones sport all sorts of pockets and zippers to hide away all their treasures.
One brand that I have found that has fun supplies is Yoobi. There is so many fun notebooks, erasers, backpacks, pencils and more for a child to put a piece of their personality into their school supplies.
While I know that many kids drag their feet at the thought of going back to school, most of them at least get excited to get some new, shiny things. Getting school supplies that let kids’ individuality shine can be just the thing to give them a little confidence boost at starting a new school year.
