We are just coming out of spending the last few months stuck in the house with family. Yeah, there were some good things about it, but I think we’re all pretty happy to be getting out and about again. However, there is still plenty of time at home with the kids before school starts again, and sometimes it’s not fun at all. But we’re kind of stuck with these people, so I decided to make a list of 25 fun family activities to try out during those not-so-fun times.
- Have a bubblegum blowing competition.
- Buy several brands of root-beer (or whatever soda you want) and vote which is best.
- Let the kids cook dinner. Help them find a recipe, get the ingredients, and let them do the rest!
- Find 3 chocolate chip cookie recipes, bake them, and vote which is best.
- Set up an obstacle course and see who can get through it the fastest.
- Go on a walk and collect rocks. Bring them home and paint them.
- Have a movie-themed night. Pick a movie, then make snacks that go with the theme of the movie. You could also dress according to the movie theme.
- Have a backyard picnic.
- Have a country or state themed night. Choose a meal or snack, music, and movie/show from that place.
- Create a new recipe out of things you have in the fridge, freezer, and pantry.
- Make an art project out of things you have around the house.
- Look at pictures from your childhood.
- Visit a park you’ve never been to.
- Let your kids choose your outfit and wear it to the store or somewhere public.
- Try a new flavor of ice cream.
- Make a short film together and record it to watch later.
- Make a treat and deliver it to neighbors or friends.
- Write a story together.
- Buy a sour candy and see who can eat the most.
- Make a copycat recipe of your family’s favorite restaurant meal.
- Have an appetizer dinner.
- Hold Family Olympics. Choose the events and compete for medals.
- Show your family a favorite movie or TV show from your childhood.
- Let your kids do your makeup.
- Draw portraits of each other.
Sometimes you just need to get a little silly and weird to have some fun! I’m looking forward to trying these out as a family.
