When I became the mom of a toddler, I quickly learned that they have their own set of lessons for you to learn. Here are just a few that I have picked up:
- Toys need to be out of their box and laid out on the floor to breathe several times a day.
- If there is a button to push, especially a red one, push it.
- If you fold laundry, you better put it away immediately or your time is wasted.
- There is such a thing as a wrong way to put a sippy cup lid on.
- There are good colors and bad colors but it changes hourly.
- Diapers and clothes are only important to adults, so you should take them off and run free through the house.
- Boredom and curiosity are a dangerous combination.
- Silence is only golden during nap time; any other time, it is dangerous.
- You should taste everything once and if it’s gross, throw it.
- Forgive and forget no matter what because life is meant to be enjoyed and family loved.
Toddlers have such a simple view on life that I wish I could embrace every day. It can be so hard raising a toddler with a mind of their own but if we step back and take a moment to slow down, we can learn a lot from them.
Let’s all take a lesson from a toddler and learn to let go just a little.
