Advice, words of encouragement, and even great tips given to a new mom from loved ones.I just finished celebrating my daughter at her baby shower. At the shower, I handed out a paper asking for everyone’s predictions and also their best advice for new moms. I thought I would share a few with you.

The overwhelming comment was to relax and enjoy this time. Over 80% of those that attended said something similar to this as the first piece of advice. How good are you at this? I think we all can use the reminder to just enjoy the season we are in.

Don’t answer the door unless you want to. Put a note on the door that says “we are sleeping, please come at another time.” For those of us visiting new moms, we should text before we want to visit and offer to help with something around the house.

Don’t worry so much about germs.

Record a growing-up video. Starting at a few days old, for just a minute or two. Save them and keep doing this every month for the first year, then a few times a year.

Read daily to your baby, toddler, or child for as long as you can.

Don’t stress so much about the baby crying. You figure out pretty quickly their needs.

Make sure you feel supported. Share the workload.

Trust your instincts. You know what is best for your child.

Enjoy the snuggles.

Don’t compare yourself to other moms.

Know that things will get easier.

Memories are more important than a perfectly clean house.
