October was a particularly difficult month. My family did plenty of learning and growing and a lot of good came from the tough stuff, but October was a hard month.

On one incredibly bad day, I made my way to Dutch Bros for a much-needed pick me up. I cried the whole drive over and as I waited in the drive-through, I did my best to clean myself up. I wiped my eyes and blew my nose until I thought I looked like a somewhat put-together and emotionally stable adult. As I pulled up to order, the young man behind the counter asked me how I was. We exchanged basic pleasantries, I placed my order, and then he looked me in the eyes and said, “You wouldn’t lie to me, right? Tell me how you’re really doing!”

Tears immediately stung my eyes and the young man quickly asked if he could give me a hug. I said yes and he reached through my car window without a second thought. He continued to talk to me about bad days and offered as much support as he could in the few minutes we were together. When I pulled forward to get my drink, a girl came bounding out with open arms and offered me another hug that I gratefully accepted. She wished me a better day and handed me my cup.

On my cup they had written, “We love you so much!”

Cue even more tears!

Now, I’ve said it before and I stand by my statement: Dutch Bros has the best customer service EVER! The Dutch Bros employees went above and beyond to comfort a perfect stranger. They absolutely could have pretended not to notice and sent me on my way, but by taking the time to reach out and connect with me, human to human, they made all the difference and left a deep impression.

We are fast approaching the holiday season with all its cheeriness and goodwill to man. Don’t get me wrong, I love that we come together and take care of one another for a few weeks, but once the dust all settles, are we missing opportunities to connect with and take care of each other?

Life is so busy; it seems like everyone has a million and twelve things on their to-do lists and we are all just trying to survive. Perhaps it would do us well to slow down and look around us. People everywhere are hurting and though we may not be able to solve all the world’s problems, it doesn’t hurt to try and ease the pain of just one person.

It doesn’t hurt to make a connection or genuinely try to improve someone’s day.

To the sweet guy at Dutch Bros who was a bright spot in an awful day, thank you for noticing, thank you for not rushing me, and thank you for being sensitive to someone’s suffering, no questions asked. To the girl who followed him up, your sunny disposition was infectious and truly made me feel better! To everyone else, just reach out and be the person you wish you had when you were struggling.

Tiffany is mama to a sweet little girl and is blessed to stay home and love on her! Tiffany’s little girl is a trooper and incredibly patient with her as she tries to figure out this “mom business”. She and her husband were both raised here in SE Idaho and love being surrounded by all this beauty! They love spending weekends enjoying nature on long drives or parked on the couch watching movies. She loves spending time in the kitchen trying out new recipes and perfecting old ones. Food is her passion, and while she enjoys trying new things, her true love will always be street tacos.
