We have partnered with Monarch Healthcare to bring relevant and important information to IFMB readers through this sponsored post.

For many of us, our OBGYN is the only doctor we see regularly. We don’t always make that annual well visit with our primary care doctor.  Many props to those who do (I need to take some notes from you!!). But, we are consistent when it comes to scheduling our annual exam with our woman doctor.  Maybe we know too many women that have been diagnosed with breast cancer and want to be sure we are checked regularly. Maybe it’s to keep our birth control in check. Maybe it’s because we know our OBGYN so well from having babies with their guidance and help.  Whatever the reason, if there is one doctor you see each year, it’s your OBGYN. Dr. Venesky at Monarch Healthcare understands this all too well, and knows that the questions moms should be discussing with their gynecologist go beyond, “Okay, so you’ll call if anything is abnormal?”

Dr. Venesky’s family

Dr. Venesky joins Dr. Allphin and Dr. Huggins at Monarch Healthcare to make one of the best teams in women’s healthcare. He is thrilled to be part of such a committed group of professionals.  “The enthusiasm that is in this (practice) is unparalleled, enthusiasm about helping patients and this community.” As soon as he met the team at Monarch he knew it was a group he wanted to be a part of as he and his family make their home here in East Idaho.

Dr. Venesky is an Atlanta, GA native and attended BYU for his undergrad before heading to Texas to attend Baylor College of Medicine.  He stayed in Texas for his residency at UT San Antonio. His wife has always had family in Blackfoot so they had visited the area often, and when it came time to find a place to make “home” the Idaho Falls area was the perfect fit.  The Venesky family of four loves the size and family-friendly environment that our area provides.

The one thing that Dr. Venesky wants his patients, and all moms, to know is one of the things that drove him to pursue obstetrics and gynecology: “There are answers.” There is always a light at the end of the tunnel and he looks forward to staying connected to patients as they move through pregnancy, postpartum, and everything beyond. While the questions can be tough and the road to the answer may be long – there are answers.

Here are 3 things moms should be asking their OBGYN:

“Is this just the way it is?”

Don’t assume things that you are feeling or experiencing are “just the way it is.” We hear SO MUCH about our family and friends’ experiences with pregnancy, birth control, aging…you name it!  Do we begin to assume that because others have similar experiences, that is must be the way it is? “Yeah, I pee a little when I laugh now – just the way it is” “My libido is down now – just the way it is”  More than likely it doesn’t have to be that way. No matter how small it is – ask your doctor! There are answers.

“Should I be concerned about my mental health?”

Your OBGYN can help with this.  If you are more likely to visit your OBGYN than any other doctor, let them know of any and all concerns you may have.  We naturally talk to them about postpartum depression – we can naturally talk to them about anxiety or depression during any stage of life. Dr. Venesky shared that mental health diseases are widely undiagnosed, and our OBGYNs WANT to and CAN help us.  They have answers or will be the perfect connections to treatment and other resources.

“How can I manage the stress of motherhood?”

As moms, we put our family first.  Nothing wrong with that. We try to make time for ourselves, but when those little people need something that comes first.  We push through and push through but at some point, the stress of it all spills over to our health. Dr. Venesky understands the importance of moms taking time for themselves.  He encourages moms to not discount stress, not to mask it. Talk with your doctor about your stress level and if you are doing enough for yourself to keep it in check.
