This year is my little family’s first Thanksgiving, and Christmas in our own place! We are beyond excited for the upcoming holidays!
Being the very holiday oriented person I am, I am already planning out our events for the next two months. I am even going to share some holiday traditions and a story or two to get everyone in the mood!
First Up: Thanksgiving
So, first off, I am hoping to get our family photos done before Thanksgiving. My husband’s favorite holiday. He is the one that expects a turkey and a ham to be at dinner. Me, I am one that loves my Mom’s homemade mashed potatoes, and this year Luka gets to enjoy it along with us with his 6 teeth present!
My first Thanksgiving living up here in Idaho, was while I was pregnant with Luka. We had just found out that Luka was a boy. And as exciting as that was, my morning sickness was not, haha. I was so bummed out that I couldn’t eat the wonderful turkey my Mom took all day to make. All I could eat was the mashed potatoes and one itty bitty slice of pumpkin pie… Lame!
Last year, Luka was only 6 months old! All he could enjoy was formula, and mashed up carrots. He was not a fan of the mashed potatoes with gravy. He literally spit them out, and made the most disgusted face in the entire world! (darn cold gravy!)
This year, we are doing Thanksgiving from home! Dimitri and I are all on our own to make a turkey and a ham. Along with the potatoes and gravy. Rolls – I am going to cheat and use Pillsbury (no one can stop me!) Homemade pumpkin pie is a must so hopefully in our little oven we can get it all done in one day!
Our Holiday Traditions
Every year on Thanksgiving, we eat our pie and put up the Christmas tree. Doesn’t matter what time it is, we always put it up. Me, I put on some Christmas music, mainly Alabama or The Andrews Sisters with Bing Crosby. Christmas is my favorite time of year because it is so happy and just filled with love. Last year was crazy, but I know this year is going to be amazing.
Sledding. Sledding is always the number one thing I look forward to when the snow falls and having the hot cocoa along with it. I love dressing up in layers and going out to just take in that fresh winter snow. Going to the winter parade with Luka in a marshmallow snowsuit last year when he couldn’t walk yet, to this year him being in a 2 piece snowsuit and walking around and enjoying the lights. And just hearing his cute exciting noises when he sees the tree all lit up.
One tradition my family always carried on was every year before Christmas, my Mom and Dad would take us to Hallmark and get us a new ornament. And what’s exciting about that is I still have every single one of them. Sadly last year I got Luka’s a little after Christmas, but I’m excited to know that this year he gets to have a new one up on the tree with that ornament from last year. And someday he will get to move out and take them with him and hold those memories that his Mom and Dad wanted to give him something special.
This Christmas is also the first time Luka gets to see Santa. I have major doubts he’ll enjoy it, but you kinda have to take your kid to see Santa, right? I myself, am going to be a Santa’s helper at the mall this year, so that just makes this holiday season even more exciting for me!
Shopping. I love me some Christmas shopping. Decorations, gifts, the Christmas oriented food, everything haha. I love to buy the Christmas leggings over at Walmart and wearing them every day up till Christmas. This year I even get to buy Luka a cute sweater outfit for the Christmas cards!
Another tradition we have here in our family is every year, we get brand new pajamas. This year I am excited to go find Luka his pair and make up a cute Christmas box with a movie, book, and a snack for Christmas Eve.
When I lived in Utah I always got a pair of pajamas, or a nice new dress to wear to Christmas dinner the next day. And we always went to Grandma’s house for dinner. My Grandma’s house is small too so we had our whole entire family, Aunts, Uncles, cousins and all, crammed into this little living room eating soup in bread bowls and just having a laugh. One year my Mom made me sing a solo from that year’s Christmas program from my school to everyone. She bribed me with a candy bar haha. Never did it again.
So, as you can tell, I am very excited for the months to come. And I will for sure be writing updates on our adventures!
With love, The Kraykovic’s
