So, I became a Mom at 19 years old. It was one of those “if it happens, it happens” moments. I didn’t really expect to get pregnant on the first try, but I did.
I was 8 days late for my period and that’s when I knew something was up with me. I felt off, but nothing too bad. No nausea, no tender breasts. I was working as a housekeeper at Teton Acute Care and Rehabilitation at the time. On the 8th day of being late for my period, I had to work the 12-7PM shift. So before going to work, I went to the store to pick up a pregnancy test.
Immediately upon coming home from the store, I ran downstairs to my bathroom and took the test as fast as possible. As I sat there, I had a feeling. “I’m pregnant. I know it.” The test showed me the 2 pink lines. Positive. I sat there and just gasped and smiled at the same time. I had never felt that way in my entire life. All I could say to myself was, “I’m a Mom.”
I called Dimitri on the phone to tell him to come downstairs so I could tell him in person. He comes down and I show him the test saying, “Congratulations Daddy.”
He was so surprised. But so happy he hugged me.
I had to get ready for work. I left for work while Dimitri was home with our Mom trying not to freak out and tell her what was going on. I wanted to tell her with him. But, she figured it out on her own.
I went to the store again after leaving work early to get a Clear Blue test just to make sure and when we got home I did the same as earlier. I ran downstairs and took it as fast as I could.
“Pregnant.”
I felt relieved. This was all real. I went upstairs to talk to Mom. We walked out into the garage and it was dead silent for a minute. Finally, she looks at me and says, “Well?” I say, “Yep.”
She wasn’t even mad.
All that was left to do was go to a doctor to confirm it.
My first appointment ever was October 10, 2017
Which I’ll talk about in my next blog! Thank you all for reading, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
