East Idaho Moms Blog is excited to feature the Haven Shelter as our nonprofit for November 2020. Eastern Idaho is fortunate to have a wealth of nonprofit and service organizations. By highlighting some of these groups, we hope to encourage moms and families to get involved and learn about all that our wonderful community has to offer.
Haven Shelter is a sub-organization of the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership. Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership helps at-risk individuals and families meet their basic needs and increase independence through support and education. The Haven provides drug- and alcohol-free facilities and supplies. The shelter is provided as emergency, short-term, transitional housing to support homeless families and single women. It also serves men if they have full custody of their children.
The Haven has programs that help women and their families improve all aspects of their lives. These programs include GED classes, life and job skill training, and budgeting, as well as reunification and advocating for families. According to the Haven Shelter, while in the program, “each adult resident is required to work on saving money and paying off debts, getting a driver’s license, working to acquire housing and whatever else that is required to help them become tax-paying, contributing members of society.”
According to Anne Johnson, the Haven Shelter manager, the community often puts on fundraisers; however, these fundraisers have been canceled because of the restrictions of Covid-19. Donations in the form of money, household items, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene, and baby items are always needed and graciously accepted.
