Idaho Falls Moms Blog is proud to feature Hospice of Eastern Idaho as our nonprofit of the month. Local nonprofits are very close to my heart (since I work for one!), and Eastern Idaho is lucky to have a wide variety of organizations that care so much about serving our community. I think it just goes to further prove what a great community we have here! We are excited to share one organization each month in an effort to highlight the amazing things happening in our corner of the world. Many of these groups are so busy that they don’t have time to sing their own praises, so we want to talk about what they are doing and hopefully encourage moms and families to get involved, too.

Hospice of Eastern Idaho is southeastern Idaho’s only nonprofit hospice. They are located here in Idaho Falls, but work with families from counties throughout the region, including Bingham, Jefferson, Madison, Fremont, and Teton in addition to Bonneville. They believe that everyone has the right to comfort, dignity, and excellent care in their final days, and will never turn anyone away due to their inability to pay. Most of us associate hospice care with the elderly, but the Hospice of Eastern Idaho can help anyone facing terminal care. It’s not just about medical care, they also provide social, spiritual, and bereavement support for the patient and their families.

The Hospice of Eastern Idaho does a great deal of community education about hospice and bereavement services and run an Alzheimer’s Group, Grief Support Group, Caregiver Training Group, and Volunteer Education Group year-round that are open to the public. They also maintain a free lending library of materials specifically designed to support doctors, patients, caregivers, and the community about understanding end-of-life issues. The Hospice staff and volunteers, as with all nonprofit workers, care deeply about what they do and want to help people prepare for and navigate these difficult circumstances in the best way possible.

They run several fundraising events through the year, including a designer purse auction in the spring and a golf tournament in August. The biggest one is the Laughter and Light Wine Tasting and Auction, which is coming up on January 26. This features five courses of gourmet food with wine pairings and a champagne toast. Ticket sales benefit  Hospice of Eastern Idaho, then there will also be live and silent auctions at the event. Tickets are $150 per couple and the event usually sells out in advance. You can also support the Hospice at any time by donating through their website, or by volunteering. Believe me when I say that all nonprofits are in constant need of both donations and volunteers! We couldn’t exist without them.

Georgina works full time at the Idaho Falls Arts Council and is mom to two tiny crazy kids. She lives on a bit of land in Grant, Idaho, where she tries to stay on top of her husband’s hoarder habits, the non-stop weeds, the ever-expanding collection of vehicles, and several cats. She is originally from England, but found her way to Idaho in 2014 via 11 years on the East Coast and is now here to stay. She loves to read, hike, sometimes bake, and has recently discovered trail running, which she is now obsessed with.
