Idaho Falls Moms Blog is excited to feature Camp Hayden as our nonprofit of the month. Eastern Idaho is fortunate to have a wealth of nonprofit and service organizations that do so much good work in our area. By highlighting some of these groups, we hope to encourage moms and families to get involved and learn about all that our wonderful community has to offer.
Camp Hayden was founded by Hayden’s parents, Jason and Kami Chapa. Hayden was born in 2013 with microlissencephaly, and sadly passed away just three years later. His short life was full of medical challenges, but Jason and Kami were determined to give him the most amazing life possible by including him on all kinds of incredible adventures. Jason modified safety equipment for Hayden so that nothing would hold him back, and he was able to join his family in camping, swimming, boating, four-wheeling, and more. Jason and Kami want to offer the same kinds of experiences for other families dealing with disabilities. They want Hayden’s life to be an inspiration; to demonstrate the kind of opportunities that can exist for everyone regardless of the disabilities or other obstacles they might be facing. Camp Hayden’s mission is “to provide accessible adventures for all,” and they do this through their summer camp, which allows families to create memories together in a fun, safe environment, as well as with Hayden’s HeARTs, an 8-week art program for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
