East Idaho Moms is excited to feature the Idaho Falls Gem & Mineral Society as our nonprofit for March 2022. Eastern Idaho is fortunate to have a wealth of nonprofit and service organizations. By highlighting some of these groups, we hope to encourage moms and families to get involved and learn about all that our wonderful community has to offer.
Established in 1962, the Idaho Falls Gem & Mineral Society (IFG&MS) is a part of the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. IFG&MS promotes the study and education of mineralogy, lapidary, and allied earth sciences, and fosters a spirit of fellowship among its members. The organization brings rockhounds of all ages and walks of life together through fellowship and education to have fun, learn more about their hobby, and educate others. With the exception of the month of April (due to their upcoming show), meetings are on the second Monday of the month in the conference room of the Fair Bridge Inn & Suites at 850 Lindsay Ave in Idaho Falls. A social hour prior to the meeting begins at 6:00 pm and the meeting begins at 7:00 pm. Visitors are more than welcome to join to learn about IFG&MS. There is even a junior rockhound group, where kids under 18 can earn rockhounding badges. New members and volunteers are welcome!
The main fundraiser/event of the Idaho Falls Gem & Mineral Society is the annual Idaho Falls Gem & Mineral Show held in April. After not being able to have a show for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IFG&MS will be hosting its 56th Annual Show on April 9-10, 2022 at the Idaho Falls Recreation Center on the corner of Memorial Ave and B Street. Admission is $3, with kids 12 and under free. The show hours are 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday. There will be a wide variety of exhibits on display, demonstrations by members, silent auctions, door prizes (including door prizes for kids), activities for kids, and vendors selling gems, jewelry, and mineral specimens!
