favorite books

Each month our contributor team will be sharing our favorite reads.  We’ll talk about some of the books we love and what we are excited to read this month.  We’ll share everything from novels to kids books to magazines.  Check in with us each month and let us know what you are loving right now!

Here are some ideas for November reading:

Sarah C’s Pick

I read Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling). Anchored by two likable leads (who by the way, have a fantastic “will they or won’t they” relationship), the fourth installment of the Cormoran Strike starts out with a disturbed man insisting that he saw a child murdered… and just gets wilder from that point on. Every time I read these novels, I am so sure that I have the mystery solved, and I never do.

Heather’s Pick

I listened to The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and love, love, loved it!  Sixteen-year-old Starr witnesses the death of her friend, Khalil, when he is shot by a police officer. Hearing her perspective was both heartbreaking and inspiring.  We follow the aftermath of the shooting as Starr balances the neighborhood she lives in with the prep school she attends. The movie released in October – read it before you see it!

Laurel’s Picks

The Little Book of Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) Danish Secrets to Happy Living. I have had this book for a couple years now and this month is when it will get read. Roughly translated Hygge means comfort, togetherness and well being. The Danish believe in the experience and the surroundings that help enhance the experience. Lit candles, although none are scented, be in the now, this moment. Build relationships, spend time with your tribe.

You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein is a compilation of essays about surviving awkward moments in life. It is hilariously written and so spot on!

“Is it really a surprise that comedian Jessi Klein, head writer and executive producer for Inside Amy Schumer, would write a book of personal essays brimming with sharp observations and insights and poignant recollections but that above all is very, very funny? …We guarantee that this book will quickly become one of your summer favorites.”―Entertainment Weekly

IFMB Kid’s Pick

There Is A Bird On Your Head! by Mo Willems.  If you haven’t read a Mo Willems book with your kids, yet. Click on this link to Amazon and order some NOW!  These books are without a doubt some of the most fun to read and kids do not get sick of them.  Now that my girls can read themselves, they love to take the voice of Piggie and Elephant and read their parts.
