Halloween doesn’t have to be hard and it definitely doesn’t have to break the bank! My Mama Brain had an idea (paper bag costumes!) and I decided to go for it. It involved two things: paper bags and paint. That’s it! My daughter and I ended up making a card guard from Alice in Wonderland, a book, and a Bansky painting. I loved getting to create a homemade costume and my two-year-old daughter loved “helping.”
Bonus: this requires zero skill. You can get as crazy or simple with it as you’d like.
Another bonus: it’s insanely cheap.
Bonus on top of another bonus: you can toss a paper bag costume after use or your child can wreck it and it won’t kill you on the inside.
Last bonus: littles can wear their snow gear under this costume because we all know that Idaho feels like winter around Halloween!

Steps to make a paper bag costume:

1. Cut holes out for arms.

2. Cut a hole for the head.

3. Cut a straight line from the last cut to back of costume for an easier way to get into the costume.

4. Decorate.

5. Wear it.

Here’s a few ideas to possibly spark a fun paper bag costume:

Animals
Clock
Robot
A mouse inside a cube of cheese. Cheese being the paper bag of course.
A tiered cake
Your favorite candy

We can’t spend hours a day looking for the best family-friendly restaurants or deciding which park has a toddler swing and bike path for your big kid.
